Deadline extended for youth schloarships

Due to many of the school days being cancelled recently, the deadline for the Children of Members Scholarship and the Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship have been extended until Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 4:30PM. See detailed information on the home page below.

About Your Cooperative

The electrical system serving your home is separated into three main parts, generation, transmission, and distribution.

Generation is the process of "creating" electrical energy from a primary source; wind, coal, hydro, gas, solar, oil, etc.

Transmission is the part which transmits electricity from the generation source to substations near homes and businesses. The transmission part is often recognized as "the grid" of large steel towers.

Distribution is the final link before your meter. The distribution portion delivers electricity from substations and along the wooden poles which are commonly seen along our roads and property.

Guernsey Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a "distribution" cooperative.

Buckeye Power, Inc. (BPI) is the generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative that is jointly owned by and serves the 25 electric distribution cooperatives in Ohio.

Children of Members Scholarship

Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative is once again holding our annual scholarship program for graduating seniors with a 3.5 or higher GPA whose parents/guardians are members of Guernsey-Muskingum. There are four awards in both divisions (boys and girls) in the amounts of $1,000; $800; $500; and $400. The first place girl and boy will then compete at the statewide competition for up to an additional $3,200. The application deadline is Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 4:30 PM. Touchstone Energy Achievement Scholarship

There is a $500 first place and $300 second place scholarship for graduating seniors who pursue a college education despite their personal, unique challenges. Students must have a 2.75 or higher GPA and their parents/guardians must be members of Guernsey-Muskingum Electric. The application deadline is Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 4:30 PM. Washington Youth Tour

Two students will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C. for a week in June. Guernsey-Muskingum Electric will sponsor two students to attend the Washington Youth Tour. The Youth Tour is open to current high school sophomores and juniors whose parents are members of Guernsey-Muskingum Electric. The application deadline is Friday, March 7, 2014.
