GenerLink Safety Device
GenerLink is a five-inch collar which can be used with a portable generator to transfer
electricity during power outages. When you connect a portable generator to the GenerLink
and start it up, the GenerLink automatically disconnects your house from the electric
utility grid.
The
image to the right shows how easy it is to connect a portable generator to the GenerLink
device.
With the use of a GenerLink, you can have the peace of mind that your portable generator
will not back-feed electricity into Guernsey-Muskingum Electric's distribution power
lines. A back-feed situation is dangerous for linemen working on and neighbors who
may come in contact with low or downed wires you energize. You are liable for a
back-feed situation that is created by your improperly installed generator.
A GenerLink is also a convenient way to avoid running extension cords to plug into
your portable generator. With a "proper" electrical transfer switch, one can safely
meet the National Electric Code. There are other "proper" transfer switches on the
market.
Contact your cooperative for information, pricing of the GenerLink, or other safe
options for using generators during power outages.
